Transition to Winter

This past weekend was spent at my family's cabin. It was time to take the dock out for the season. We pushed it back as far as we could this year, and as you will see below...we missed the snow by only one day. It seemed a fitting transition, to wake up the next morning to a snow covered world. There are few better places to be than at the cabin when it returns to winter. Days are filled with hot coffee, afternoon naps, boardgames, fresh apple doughnuts, and never getting out of your sweatpants. I am grateful for days like that.

On a side note, one of the things I have missed most about blogging is the photography. It became normal for me to leave my camera at home these past few months. I'm not entirely sure why this became my habit. Laziness perhaps.... or too much time spent on the computer without adding in uploading photos. Well no matter the cause, I am happy to once again lug my camera around on a daily basis.

A little story

I've tried really hard this winter to not complain about the cold.

I reminded myself that the summers make it worth it to fight through the long months of winter.

I drank a lot of coffee and hot chocolate.

I drove carefully and never got stuck or went into the ditch.

I read a lot of books under cozy blankets.

I ran on the treadmill in the 5 X 5 room downstairs that heats up like a sauna.

I remembered how much I like wearing/buying winter coats, and making new scarves.

I had a nice rotation of sweaters to wear to all my substitute jobs.

I perfected my walking on ice skills. You NEVER lock your knees and walk like you expect to fall at any moment so that your balance correcting maneuvers are always in the ready.

I embraced my translucently pale skin.

I did all of this because I was convinced that it would eventually be over. ahhhhhh spring.

THEN WHY IS THERE SNOW ON THE GROUND IN MAY?!?!?!

the end.

Your timing is off

The first day of spring was a few days ago, and just the thought of warmer weather caused happiness in our household. While doing some grocery shopping we wandered through the outdoor/garden department, so I wishfully picked up some planting supplies so that I could start a few seedlings before the warmer weather arrives.

We only have a small patio for growing so I was very limited as to what I can actually grow, but we decided on some tomatoes and red peppers since those are two of the more commonly used vegetables in our kitchen. I also planted some oregano, rosemary, and chives. Here are some over exposed photos of the process. (I was too lazy to change the exposure because my hands were covered with dirt)

Now here is where the poor timing comes in.

There is currently a snowstorm barreling our way. Right now it is only sleeting a bit, but from the look of the local forecast we could get up to a foot of snow. Your appropriate response should be "are you kidding me?!". And no, I am not...but I wish I was. The snow is unwelcome especially when flooding is already such a risk. Snow storm warnings and flood warnings...

Snow.

Rain.

Sleet.

Cold.

Lightning and Thunder too?! (not kidding at all)

Where is the sun?

Let it Snow...and snow....and SNOW

It's finally here.
Welcome Winter.
I guess we couldn't put it off any longer.

At least there is Christmas to look forward to....

and YES...our Christmas Tree is already up.

We arrived home last night without sliding off the slippery interstate thinking we had outwitted winter for the time being. Upon waking however I saw the blanket of white outside, and I must admit I was not disappointed. It was beautiful snow that fell slowly to the ground. As the school day progressed the flakes became bigger and continued to fall and fall. Now I am currently curled up with some hot chocolate. Mmmmm. I hope everyone else is staying warm and cozy tonight as well :)

And life begins

I am three days into Spring Semester. I think calling it spring semester is being generous because I am pretty sure Spring doesn't hit until April around here, and by the time that's here there is only a month left of school. So on that note, I have started PFY or "Professional Final Year"...at least that's what I think it stands for haha. I will start my student teaching the last three weeks of the semester and then finish up all Fall semester. And then I'm done. Weird.
This semester is going to be a busy one, but nothing that isn't manageable. School has been a part of my life for long enough that not too much phases me. It's always one more assignment, one more paper, one more project. And they always get done one way or another, even if it means staying up til 2am to finish it.

I managed to organize my room a bit, so a result of this is feeling more organized all around. simplify. Simplify.

I have also started my Photo a day goal. So far so good. I am going to have to get creative about what my subjects will be though, something new everyday.

Unfortunately I believe this post is only happening to further put off homework, but I have accepted my procrastination skills. Like I said before, the work always gets done.

Winter break was amazing. Here are a few pics from the week at the cabin. Enjoy!
