It's Friday People!

Let's celebrate!

It's Friday after a week that felt like Friday was never going to come for awhile.

I spent today in the land of 2nd grade, which is a land of high moments where you are convinced that you could in fact enjoy teaching this age every day, and lows where you think the kid running around with the large scissors is actually going to cut his classmate's hair off.

*He yells out "April Fools!" while I nervously laugh and walk quickly across the room to reclaim the scissors.

And then there is the student that leaves a sweet note on the desk waiting for me. It is nice to be appreciated, and even better when I get to claim things such as being "kined, nigtes, and wountherful"  (kind, nice, and wonderful I'm guessing?)

Oh and did you know that the word "Statue" is a very difficult word to spell in the mind of a 2nd grader...
Let me give you a few creative examples pulled from spelling tests.

Statchue
Stachyue
and lastly... Stachtovve.

Maybe these were more humorous to me than they are to others, but I couldn't help but smile when I read them. You must admit, some of them are pretty inventive spellers.

I hope everyone is having a wountherful Friday!

Adults.

Okay. So this will be brief.

We returned from the cabin on Sunday evening but I won't share too much about that right now because I have high hopes of uploading all those photographs and sharing about the weekend then. All you need to know is that many board games were played, some quilts were sewn, and there was not a lack of food.

In other news, I have begun substitute teaching this week. I was in a second grade classroom yesterday and I am actually going back again today. I figured I might as well go back to a room that I am somewhat familiar with. It was a pretty good day overall, but I'm not sure if I can see myself in a second grade classroom in the future.

I also managed to smash my knee against the desk at school so I was feeling pretty old by the time I got home and found an ice pack to lessen the bruise that formed. This morning it is feeling much better.

Ben also surprised me with some flowers and a date last night to celebrate my beginnings as a substitute. Some beautiful yellow daisies and dinner at my favorite restaurant. We don't go out to eat much these days so it was a nice surprise. We had planned on going out to a movie too (another big deal haha) but after I got my job for today we decided to just rent a movie and watch it at home so I wouldn't be up so late.

We had a little laugh about the ending of our big night on the town because it ended with a romantic trip to walmart to pick up food for my lunches and toilet paper. So glamorous aren't we?

Going to bed early instead of going to a movie theater.

Ending our date night with a walmart toilet paper run.

Icing my knee while watching a rented movie.

Maybe we really are adults now. Ha.

Well I need to finish my coffee so I am ready to tackle the day. Have a wonderful Tuesday!

12 Hour School Day

Conferences today.

It made for a long day. And unfortunately I have saved a large amount of homework to finish up tonight so it will end up being a long night. I keep telling myself it's a short week. A Short Week. Only get to Wednesday. I can do it. Yes. Positive thinking.

Haha Yes.

Other positive thoughts for you.

1. It is November and I can still get away with not wearing a coat most days. It's incredible.

2. My sister's soccer team is going to Nationals. GO COBBERS! (shhhh- don't tell anyone I am cheering for them)

3. I am planning a lesson on the illustrations from the book, "The Mystery of Harris Burdick". The book is made up on illustrations that are given a title and a single caption. They truly spur one's imagination. I have included a few examples below.

Legend has it that Burdick was interested in having some of his short stories published, so he met with a Publisher to give him the illustrations with captions from his stories in hopes the Publisher would be interested. After giving the illustrations a look, the Publisher tried to get a hold of Burdick for more information, but he never heard back because Burdick had disappeared without a trace!
MR. LINDEN'S LIBRARY
"He had warned her about the book. Now it was too late."

THE SEVEN CHAIRS
"The fifth one ended up in France."

THE THIRD-FLOOR BEDROOM
"It all began when someone left the window open."

Okay back to work. Goodnight people :)

Off to the wilderness

{picture from my family's cabin}

Off to a wildlife park with my class tomorrow! Thankfully the weather is promising and my lunch is all packed. Oh the excitement of field trips isn't lessened with age, trust me! There are whispers of Ben starting a blog. I will keep you updated ;)

Returning to 5th Grade

I start student teaching tomorow. Wish me luck! My peanut butter and jelly sandwhich is made and ready(with homemade strawberry-rhubard jam to be exact) *See Pic above
Off to bed now...

(well I'm at least attempting to go to bed early so that the morning doesn't hit me too hard.)

XO,

Mrs. Zimmer

Say What?

100 Posts!

Wow....didn't think I'd actually stick with this thing of mine. Unfortunately my reason for this post isn't that exciting...

tomorrow I take my last (hopefully) PRAXIS test.

ugh. UGHHH.

I really shouldn't complain since I haven't really studied that much. (which I may regret about a month from now)

But I will wake up tomorrow morning probably around 5:30 (whoop) and drive an hour to take it.

The thing is FOUR HOURS LONG.

I apologize for the complaining, but come on now. Ben is at my place for the weekend so he will simply sleep in and eat a nice breakfast with the family. Meanwhile my hand will be cramping up. haha ok it shouldn't be too bad. I feel fairly prepared. It is interesting how I think of all these things I wish I could be doing tonight instead of preparing for this test. Right now my family thinks I am studying but obviously I am taking a well desereved (ha) break.

Things to remember tomorrow:

Pencils
Calculator
ID
My Garmin
COFFEE
Test ticket

For now though I am thinking my sweatpants and some orange tea are in order. Then maybe I will crack open my study book one last time.
